Thanksgiving

It’s been a rough few weeks to be a human, hasn’t it? We’ve seen tragedy in Paris, Beirut, Mali, and many other places. We’ve seen people reacting to these tragedies with fear and hatred. It feels like something vitally important to our humanity is at risk: our ability to love each other, empathize with each other, and help each other. It’s been disheartening.

I’m grateful for this holiday today, where we can pause and reflect on everything we have and how very fortunate we are. I am so grateful for everything today. The basics: a warm home, delicious and plentiful food to eat, clean water to drink, a great job that I enjoy going to. The essentials to my happiness: my loving family, my wonderful friends, my amazing boyfriend. I’m also grateful for all the little things that bring joy to my life: books to read, puppies to cuddle, mountains to hike.

I hope you have a wonderful day, and that you notice all the joy around you. I hope you’re snug as a bug with people you care about. I hope that once your belly is full you can relax and read, or watch a movie, or do whatever makes you happy.

The only defense against fear and uncertainty in the world at large is to live our lives fully, appreciate what we have, constantly test the limits of our own capacity for love, and to help as many people as we can.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends. I’m grateful for you. ♥
