Words to live by: W. Somerset Maugham

Happy Friday! Today’s quote is a reminder to ‘take delight’ in the lovely things in our lives. It’s very similar to the sentiment in one of my favorite Kurt Vonnegut quotes – “I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.'” We take so many things for granted and fail to appreciate them while we have them. A major part of mindfulness is enjoying the current moment of your life and the things within it, and I love literary quotes that express this idea.

  1. This quote is very timely, as I’m graduating in a few weeks. I like that it captures how bittersweet endings can be and is a reminder to appreciate something while it’s here and not take time for granted. Thanks for sharing this!
