This is a day for very good news

I don’t post a lot of very personal things on here, but today just became sunshiny and good and I want to share the news.

A little backstory:

A few weeks ago, we found out my uncle has pancreatic cancer. Most of you probably know that pancreatic cancer is just about the worst kind of cancer to get, it’s basically a death sentence.

However, we all tried to stay positive, because his was a little bit of an unusual case: they caught it extremely early. So early that the doctor said the statistics might not apply to him, but there was no way of knowing yet. They found the tumor because he had a kidney stone and were addressing that problem.

A surgery to remove the tumor was scheduled, but the earliest he could be fit in was 2 weeks from now. The waiting, as you can imagine, has been unbearable for him and my aunt. Also, the cancer could spread at any time.

Good news came this weekend when they were told there was now an opening for Wednesday (today).

So he went into surgery this morning. The surgeon came out after and told my aunt that the tumor was small and early, and that he thinks he got it all. This is incredible news. The biopsy will be the final word, and he still has to do chemo and radiation, but if the biopsy comes back good then there’s a very good chance he will make it through this.

I’m so happy and thankful. I can’t imagine how hard this has been for my aunt. My grandma lost her husband to cancer before he turned 60 (the same age my uncle is now) and lived the last 23 years of her life without him. I can imagine few things worse than losing the person you love and have spent your life with, especially when they are taken far too early.

There’s still a bit of uncertainty, but there’s reason to smile now and remain hopeful.

Here is my cheesy Life is Beautiful picture to accompany this very good news.
